07-203Council File # �7 � 03 Green Sheet # 30 �7�� .t�L Presented RESOLUTION SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA 13 1 Resolution Authorizing Acceptance of a Gift from the University of Califomia-Berkeley, Allowing 2 PED Staff to Attend and Make A Presentation at a Symposium on Creating Mixed-Income 3 Neighborhoods Along Transit Corridors WFIEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is engaged in a planning effort to create a vision and strategy for community development along the Central Corridor, given the planned investment in light rail transit; and 8 WHEREAS, this planning effort will result in a document entiUed a"Central Corridor Development 9 Strategy," which should be ready for review and adoption in the spring of 2007, first by the Planning 10 Commission and subsequently the Mayor and City Council; and 11 12 WHEREAS, a major emphasis of the work on the "Central Corridor Development Strategy" has been on 13 preserving mixed-income neighborhoods along the corridor, and avoiding economic displacement of the 14 residents and businesses there once LRT is constructed and begins operating; and 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 WHEREAS, this work has drawn national attention, and the Center far Community Innovation at the University of California-Berkeley has invited PED staff to make a presentation at a symposium it is organizing regazding planning for mixed-income communities in development adjacent to major transit investments; and WHEREAS, the University of California-Berkeley has offered to pay the costs for PED staff to attend and present at the symposium, which is scheduled for March 9, 2007; now, therefare be it RESOLVED, that upon the recommendation of the Mayor, the Council of the City of Saint Paul does hereby authorize acceptance of a gift of up to $1,200 from the University of California-Berkeley to pay for airfare, transfers, lodging, and food for PED staff to attend and present at the symposium entitled "Are We There Yet? Bay Area Transit-Oriented Communities and Mixed Incomes" on March 9, 2007 in Berkeley, California. The university has offered to pay the costs for staff to attend and present at the symposium.
