05-1108������ � � � ►21�1 �os R UTION ° CITY T A , MI „ ��.� � Presented by Council File # dS � � D g GreenSheet# �Da���g ESOTA Resolution Urging Passage of a Statewide Smoking Ban 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 WHEREAS, tobacco-related disease is the number one cause of preventable death and disease to Minnesota residents; and WHEREAS, worksite and public places are locations where both members of the community and employees of those establishments are exposed to secondhand smoke; and WHEREAS, employees should not be forced to risk their health through exposure to dangerous and deadly toxins in their workplace; and WHEREAS, comprehensive smoke-free policies mitigate this unnecessary warkplace risk; and WHEREAS, within the last couple of years a number of communities throughout Minnesota have implemented smoking bans in bars and restaurants; and WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council applauds the actions of these communities, but believes the State should lead the way in efforts to reduce the adverse impact of tobacco smoke on indoor air quality. Now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council supports and urges passage of state legislation that protects Minnesota workers, including bar and restaurant employees, through passage of a prohibition on smoking in bars and restaurants statewide.
