Mark Gilquist, resident aY 764 Wheelock Parkway, submitted a completed perition to convert Arlington Avenue between Walsh Stxeet
and Payne Avenue from a two way street to a one way westbound. The reasons stated were to unprove safety and prevent damage to
propery.
AdvanWges If Approved:
Traffic volume on Arlington may be reduced, 4affic will be diverted from Arlington and pedesirians may more easily cross Arlington.
Disadvantages If Approved:
Traffic on adjacent sheets and alleys may see an increase in traffic. Emergency response times and bus routes may be a,ffected.
Speeds oa the one-way may increase. �

Dear Bruce Beese:
The Payne Phalen District Five Planning Council has been properly
approached by residents several times of the past year regarding traffic
concerns with fast traffic, high accident rates and potential danger at
one segment of Arlington street near Payne and Walsh. District Five
convened several meetings for the purpose of community discussion of
this issue and asked Traffic Engineering staff to respond to resident
concerns. They have done so.
The District Five Community Planning and Economic Development
Committee (CPED) and the Board of Directors has listened to residents
and have voiced their strongest support for the following result. The
motion was approved to request Traffic Engineering to immediately work
to create one-way westbound traffic on Arlington between Walsh and
Payne Avenue. The District 5 Council will work with your department in
whatever ways may be helpful to expedite this change. For example, we
could help notify neighbors and area businesses of the proposed change.
There has been ample public input, steadfast work by resident advocates,
and proper review and support from the District Five Planning Council. The
Council appreciates the work of City staff Elisabeth Stiffler and Monica
Beeman and the staff at the Ward Six Council who have helped address
this concern. . In particular, the Council notes the work of Neil Andersen
and Mark Gilquist and thanks them for working to improve safety in the
neighborhood.
Please contact me if you have any questions or if I can provide further
information. We appreciate the fast work of City staff to help implement
this change. Seasona4 changes bring new traffic to the area and residents
want to prevent any significant.

Please see attached request. My computer is not working and my internet service is interrupted. I do need to
get this information to you as neighbors are most interested in seeing this project move forward. We do not
want to be a source of any delay. Elisabeth Stiffler was at our last meeting in which this issue was discussed
