Chapter 101 of the Saint Paul Administrative Code is hereby aznended to read as follows: Chapter 101. Civil 5ervice Commission 7 101.01. Alternates. 8 (a) In addition to the regular members of the Civil Service Commission as established by the City 9 Charter, there shall be three (3) alternates appoimed by the Mayor with the consent of the Ciry 10 Council and the Boazd of Education of Independent School District Number 625. An alternate shall 11 serve in the event of the inability of a regular member to attend a commission meeting or a 12 hearing or of the existence of a conflict of interest on behalf of a regulaz member. Terms for 13 altemates shall be six (6) years, except that one of the three (3) alternates first apgointed shall 14 serve for a term of two (2) years and one for a term of four (4) years. The Human Resources 15 D'uector shall contact altemates to serve in a rotating order. 16 (b) For the first meeting or hearing for which an alternate is needed the Human Resources Director 17 shall first contact the altemate appointed for a two-year term followed by the alternate appointed for 18 a four-year term and then the alternate appointed for a s'vc-year term. No more than om two 19 altemates may serve at any one time. All appointments shall be from among the qualified voters of 20 the city who are in known sympathy with the application of inerit principles to public employment. 21 No altemate may hold any office or employment under the City. An alternate shall cease to be an 22 alternate to the commission upon becoming a candidate for elective ciry office. Any alternate may 23 be removed by the City Council for cause after a hearing. Proceedings for removal may be initiated 24 by the Mayor, the Ciry Council or the Boazd of Education. 25 Sec. 101.02. Civil service commission; compensation. 26 Pursuant to the authority provided in Section 12.02 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, the 27 Council of the City of Saint Paul does hereby fix the compensarion to be paid to each regular 28 member of alternate sitting as a member of the Civil Service Commission to be fifty dollars �9-y4P' 29 ($50.00) for each meeting or hearing that the regular member or altemate sitting as a member 30 shall attend, but in no event shall any regular commission member or alternate sitting as a member 31 receive more than two thousand siz hundred dollars $2,600.00) per annum for attendance at such 32 meetings and hearings. 33 34 35 Section 2. Currently only one altesnate can serve on a Civil Service Commission hearing.
