An ordinance amending Ordinance No. 7607, entitled:
"An ordinance fixing the duties and responsibilities
and the minimum qualifications for the various classes of
positions in the Classified Service of the City,"
approved February 13, 1935, as amended.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAINT PAUL DOES ORDAIN:
Section 1. That Ordinance No. 7607, approved February 13, 1935,
as amended, be and the same is hereby further amended by striking out the
title and specifications for "Chief of Food and Dairy Division "; and, by
substituting in lieu thereof the following title and specifications for:
Director of Environmental Hygiene

Section Z. That said ordinance, as amended, be and the same
is hereby further amended by striking out the specifications for the title
"Coordinator of Women�s Activities - -Civil Defense's; and by substituting
in lieu thereof the following statement:
"(This title is hereby abolished except as to present incumbent.)"
Section 3. That said ordinance, as amended, be and the same is
hereby further amended by striking out the title in the specifications for
.s.. "Resources Management and Shelter Supply Officerti; and by substituting
in lieu thereof the title "Shelter Supply Officer".
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force on
the first day of the first payroll period following thirty days, after its
passage, approval, and publication.

Duties and responsibilities:
Under administrative direction, to have charge of the division of
environmental hygiene in the Bureau of Health; and to perform
related work as assigned.

Examples of work performed:
To plan, organize and direct the work of sanitarians assigned to
milk control, hotel and restaurant inspection, and wholesale
:- and retail food and meat inspection.
To supervise a program of livestock disease control.
To act as consultant on sanitary problems and conditions.
To supervise the testing of drinking water both public and privates
To act as adviser on sewage disposal.
To supervise the testing of water of swimming pools and bathing
beaches.
To supervise a program of rodent and pest control.
To supervise the inspection of houses to enforce the housing code.
To instruct the sanitarians as to their duties and to acquaint
them with the laws, ordinances and regulations governing
their division.
To explain to dealers handling foods, dairy and meat products,
and to the public, the policies of the Bureau of Health relating
to inspections, and to interpret laws, ordinances and regulations.
To supervise and to make independently important special
investigations and surveys in connection with dairy, food
and meat inspection problems.
Minimum qualifications:.
Graduation from an accredited veterinary medical school and
three years' experience in food, milk, meat or dairy inspection.
(No substitution for education.) An applicant who also has a
Master of Public. Health degree may substitute such degree for
two years' of the required experience.
