An Ordinance amending Chapter 6 of the Saint Paul
Legislative Code pertaining to BuildingiConstruction,
THE COUNCIL OF TIE CITY OF SAINT PAUL DOES ORDAIN;
Section 1
That Section 6.03 Number of Exits is hereby amended by
deleting subsection 3 Apartments which reads�as follows:
3. Apartments
In multifamily houses exceeding two (2) stories above the
•'basement, and in every,two• -story multifamily house having
more than six (6)`apartments using a common exit way, every
apartment that has no direct exit to a street or to a court,
shall have access to at least one (1) additional exit way
separated from and independent df the primary interior stair-
way or fire tower.
and add the following in lieu thereof:
3. Apartments
In multifamily houses every dwelling unit shall have ac-
cess to two separate exits which are remote from each other
and are reached by travel in different directions, except
that a common path of travel may be permitted for the first
twenty (20) feet, provided - a single exit may be permitted
'in apartments where each dwelling unit has direct exit to
the street or yard at grade or by way of an outside stairway
or an enclosed stairway with a fire - resistance rating of one
hour or more serving that,dwelling, unit only and not commun-
icating with the basement or other area not part of the
dwelling unit served.

from and after its passage,a pu lication.
