Re: Animal Quarantine Ordinance
Dear Coimnissioner Meredith:
Enclosed herein is an ordinance pertaining to the quarantining of
animals who have bitten a human. During 1970 we quarantined 1,284
anima.ls. Dog bites have increased sixty-nine percent (69%) since
1962.
On several occasions animal owners have expected the City to have
their animal at the dog pound for the ten (10) day quarantine period.
It is our feeling that the owner should bear the expense of the
quarantine. At present there is no ordinance which spells out the
requirements for quarantining.
There are only 48 cages in the dog pound, and these cages are used
for holding impounded animals for five (5) days as required by law.
Your consideration in introducing this ordinance will be appreciated.
Yours truly,
