Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the Manager of Data Processing. Supervision Exercised: Directs the work of Systems Analysts. TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in this class. Establishes the standards of data collection and data base documentation, publishes the description and definitions of data elements, data seg- ments, access requirements and methods of access for individual appli- cations that use the data elements and segments, and compiles a diction- ary or glossary of names assigned to every data element, segment, etc. , and defines the logical relationships between them. Provides for the recovery of the data base in the event of castastrophic or intermediate failure. He assumes the responsibility of providing the . detailed requirements to implement recovery procedures and ensures that they accomplish their intended purpose. Consults with analysts and users in the most efficient methods of retriev- ing data. Advises and informs users as to optimum use of retrieval strategies and the development of appropriate access keys to accomplish this. Controls the integrity and security of the data base, and ensures that an appropriate procedure exists such that specific rules or parameters have been defined for individuals, terminals, etc. that will control all deletions, modifications, updates and queries of the data base. Directs and controls the sophisticated projects and tasks that need imple- menting on data processing equipment. Advises and consults with project leaders regarding the most effective and efficient search/access strategies to use in designing systems. Acts as a technical advisor to all committees, boards and department heads requiring information as to the use of data processing equipment. Plans and recommends machine modifications or additional equipment to increase the capacity of the system. Consults with the senior staff inembers, project leaders, and subordinate personnel about work currently being performed, and coordinates between groups, and insurea project schedules/deadlines are being met. Assumes the duties and responsibilities of ma.nager in the manager's absence. KNOW LEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of data base management philosophies and concepts. Police the opportunity to hire individuals who are familiar vvith neighbor.hood problems, ��ho are below the age requirements for Police Officer, or who may not be eligible for Police Officer but may in the future become eligible, so that these employees may be exposed to and learn about police work so that they may, through this exposure, in formal and informal school training, become qualified for appoint- ment as Police Officer in the Department of Police. DESCRIPTION OF WORK General Statement of Duties: Performs intermediate level non-sworn police ��ork in the field and in the office; and performs related duties as required. Supervision Received: Works under close supervision of the unit super- visor and technical direction of uniformed personnel in the field as available. Supervision Exercised: None. Performs public relations work in the community explaining police work and procedures to the public and explains and relays community attitudes to sworn officers, Issues parking tickets, tags vehicles condemned by the Health Department orauthorized agency and orders removal to the impounding lot. Checks on location of reported stolen vehicles as dispatched and checics on status of vehicles observed by officers in the field. Conducts investigations of reported dog bite incidents, may impound animal for obse rvation and prepare s written report of inve stigation. Refuels patrol vehicles, inspects tire pressures, windows and lights, delivers vehicles to garage for cleaning and general maintenance as required. Picks up and delivers reports, iriformation, evidence, other items and personnel as directed or requested. Receives, stores and categorizes arti.cles of evidence and recovered stolen, lost or abandoned property; prepares and maintains accurate records of all items received. Releases articles to authorized individuals including properly identified owners, court officers or police personnel. Assists with departmental activities including public auctions, asseinhly of reports and record keeping activities. ��articipates in police training programs as scheduled.
