Re: Civic Center Construction - Fourth Street Sewer Tunnel
Dear Ms. Jones:

I have been informed that a section of sandstone has collapsed into the sanitary
sewer tunnel for a length of about 25 feet. This will have to be stabilized.
The City's contract with Lametti, in nearb� streets, includes work in similar tunnels.
The plans and specifications outline several steps to stabilize the exposed
sandstone. Your contractor should fake the necessary actions to stabilize the wal{
before furthec damage is done. S9milar to our contract, one method is rock bolts, wire
mesh and shotcrete. We also generally use a chemical grout called spraygrout in our
plans.
The problem section seems timited in length. The use of a grout anchored into place
may be sufficient. Lametti, who is working for us, is experienced working in such
conditions. Your contractor might seek their help in securing the tunnel in 4th Street.
