The Zoning Committee conducted a public hearing on the case on October 1 , 1981 . It was reported that the W. 7th St. Federation voted to support the rezoning if suitable housing can be found for the people who will be dis- placed from the two houses which will be removed from the site. The Zoning Committee voted 4-0 to recommend approval of the rezoning. The Planning Commission considered the Zoning Committee's recommendation on October 9, 1981 , and voted 14-0 to approve the rezoning. The rezoninq is scheduled to be heard by the City Council on November 19, 1981 . The Economic Development Strategy of the Compreher�sive Plan states that ". . .the �ity shall consider the feasibility of rezoning residential land that would be more $uitable for commercial or industrial purposes" (p.13). The location on W. 7th Street a�hd the proximity of I-35E make the site an appropriate location for comnercial use. 4. There was no opposition present at the hearing. Ms. Daykin showed slides of the site and reviewed the staff findings with a recommendation for approval . A letter was received from the W. 7th Street Federation supporting the rezoning if suitable housing can be found for the people living in the two homes. William Gydesen, 561 Winston Court, presented a proposed model of the structure and pointed out that the building is one story and not two story has indicated in the staff report. Richard Larson, architect, presented a site plan and explained the proposal . Henry Krass , 725 S. Chatsworth, asked what type of retail business is proposed? Ms. Daykin reported that after the public hearing notices were sent out, they were informed that the applicant did not intend to put in any retail business. Mr. Gydesen stated the�.only firm tenant they have is a real estate office. The !�J. 7th Federation indicated that they would like to see space available for small businesses that want to relocate such as barber shops , beauty shops , dry cleaners; types of services that the neighborhood could use. � Hearing no further testimony, Mr. Bryan closed the public hearing portion of the meeting. Mr. Armstead made a motion to approve the rezoning based on findings 2, 3, and 4 of the staff report. Mr. Levy seconded the motion. The motion passed on a roll call vote of 4 to 0.
