MINNESOTA Presencea Referred To Council File #�� - 6 3 3 Green Sheet # G a 40 �{ Committee Date TO ENCOURAGE CLEAN SIDEWALKS AND STOREFRONTS YEAR-ROUND IN DOWNTOWN SAINT PAUL DURING PERIOD OF INCREASED CONSTRUCTION WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul has always sought to maintain a clean and welcoming environment yeaz- round in downtown Saint Paul; and WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul recognizes that clean storefronts, sidewalks and skyways enhance the experience of residents, shoppers, visitors, and workers in downtown Saint Paul; and WHEREAS, maintaining clean storefronts, sidewalks and skyways will further the City of Saint Paul's goal of increasing the attractiveness of downtown as a regional and national destinarion; and WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is the capital city of Miunesota and desires to serve as a model of civic cleanliness for the entire state; and 9 WI-IEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council aclaiowledges the benefits of over $1 billion being invested over 10 the next four years in new construction in the City of Saint Paul including significant downtown projects 11 such as the expansion of Ecolab and the constnxciton of the Science Museum of Minnesota, Lawson 12 Commons, and Minnesota Mutual buildings; and 13 WI�REA5, the City of Saint Paul also recognizes that increased economic growth and construction in the 14 downtown corridor poses a challenge to the maintenance of a clean downtown; 15 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul flushes and sweeps all downtown streets at least once every two days; 16 and 17 VIT�IEREAS, employees ofthe City of Saint Paul volunteer bi-monthly to pick up litter in downtown Saint 18 Paul; and 19 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul conrinues to make an extra effort to ensure a high standard of cleanliness 20 for City-owned and City-managed properties during this period of rapid growth and construction; now 21 therefore be it 22 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council strongly encourages business and property owners of 23 downtown Saint Paul to frequently clean and wash sidewalks, clean windows, clean skyways, help keep �����i��� �g - � 33 1 streets clean and perform other unprovements and maintenance efforts to ensure that downtown continues 2 to be ari inviting place to live, work, shop, visit, and attend events during this period of rapid growth and 3 construction; and be it 4 FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council strongly encourages business and property 5 owners of downtown Saint Paul to remove snow and ice on a regular and timely basis during winter months 6 to ensure a safe and inviting dowatown duriug this period of rapid growth and construction.
