Date SLEEP-OUT FOR THE HOMELESS 1 WHEREAS, the population of homeless people in Saint Paul is 2 growing; and 3 4 WHEREAS, figures from homeless shelters indicate that demand 5 for temporary shelter is growing; and 6 7 WHEREAS, the demand on community services for homeless 8 people including health care is growing; and 9 10 WHEREAS, a solution will require the involvement and 11 cooperation of all segments of society; and 12 13 WHEREAS, a Sleep-Out on Summit Avenue in Saint Paul is 14 being planned between Snelling and Fairview Avenues on 15 November 18 and 19, 1991; and 16 17 WHEREAS, the Community Campaign for Housing Now; Joseph's 18 Coat; Twin Cities colleges including Macalester, St. Thomas, St. 19 Catherine's, Bethel, the University of Minnesota, and the 20 University of Minnesota Architecture School; and the University of 21 Minnesota Chapter of MPIRG are cooperating on the 3rd annual 22 Sleep-Out for the Homeless; and 23 24 WHEREAS, residents on Summit Avenue between Snelling 25 Avenue and Fairview Avenue have been contacted and endorse 26 this effort; therefore be it 27 28 C�I�����;��. ���i�aira RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council endorses the effort 2 by young people to embrace one of the most intractable issues of 3 our time; and be it further 4 5 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council supports the 6 cooperative effort to sensitize people who participate in the Sleep- 7 Out concerning the conditions of daily life for homeless people; 8 and be it further 9 10 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council supports this effort 11 which will draw attention from the larger community to the lives 12 of homeless people in our City and to the need to address the 13 growing needs of these individuals in our City.
