1 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul has a rich baseball tradition dating back to May 7, 1895 when
2 Charlie Comiskey's Saint Paul Ball Club opened the season at a new ballpark located at Dale Street
3 and Aurora Avenue before 3000 fans; and
4
5 WHEREAS, this tradition continued for many years and included an intense rivalry between the
6 Saint Paul Saints and the Minneapolis Millers of the American Association; and
7
8 WHEREAS, in 1961 the Washington Senators American League Baseball Franchise moved to
9 Minnesota creating the Minnesota �vins and uniting the two cities behind one team; and
10
11 WHEREAS, in 1965 the Minnesota 1�uvins won their first American League Pennant and lost the
12 World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games; and
13
14 WHEREAS, in 1987 the Minnesota 1�vins won their second American League Pennant and
15 defeated the Saint Louis Cardinals in seven games, winning a11 four home games, to claim their
16 first World Series Championship; and
17
18 WHEREAS, in 1991 the Minnesota Twins won their third American League Pennant defeating the
19 Toronto Blue Jays four games to one and on October 27, 1991 defeated the Atlanta Braves 1-0 in
20 the tenth inning of game seven, again winning all four home games, to win their second World
21 Series title; now, therefore, be it

23 RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council of the City of Saint Paul declare Tuesday, October 29,
24 1991 MINNESOTA TWINS DAY in Saint Paul; and be it further
25
26 RESOLVED, that on behalf of all of the citizens we commend the entire Minnesota Twins
27 organization, particularly the players, coaches and staff of the 1991 World Championship Team,
28 for providing some of the most exciting entertainment in baseball history and for exhibiting
29 professir�nalism, strong work ethic and gritty play throughout the 1991 baseball season.
