INITIATING ACTION This project is being initiated by the Department of Public Works. EXISTING CONDITIONS This street was unimproved and unused until 1990 when a new sewer was constructed as part of the sewer separation system. The brush and trees were removed, the peat soils were replaced and the area was graded smooth. Marion was repaved as part of this contract and a developer built new homes an Marion. The new buysr on the NW corner of Marion and Nebraska was lead to believe that Nebraska was also going to be improved and oriented the house to face Nebraska and a garage was built west of the new house. The only ingress and egress to the new home and garage is from unimproved Nebraska. This strest has turned into a quagmire and the only way to properly correct the problem is to grade and pave the street. Recent assessments have been paid on Marion . PROPOSEDIMPROVEMENTS We are proposing to construct concrete curb and gutter, pave the surtace with bituminous material, and construct the catch basins. POSITIVE BENEFITS The aesthetics of the neighborhood would be greatfy enhanced and the driving surtace would be made passabte. OSTS AND FINANCINC An estimated $14,350 long-side aid funds will be used to finance this project. ALTERNATES To do nothing would not be a major problem for the city's transportation system but the street would remain a quagmire and the existing home would not be able to access the front of the house or garage. T1ME SCHEDULE The project could be completed in (30) days. If fall weather holds good, the project could be done yet this year. . , . ;q_ SURCE A1TINAL INF RMATIN For additional information, contact Jack Davis at 292-6281.
