CITY OF S INT PAUL, MINNESOTA _ . - Presented By Referred To Committee: Date Whereas, November 1, 1991 marks the 150th anniversary of the naming of Saint Paul ; and - � Whereas, the community has embarked on a series of activities and events throughout the city to celebrate the 150th anniversary; and Whereas, a major emphasis of the celebration will be the recognition of the diversity of cultures which shaped Saint Paul 's history and continues to make the City a unique and rewarding place to live and work; and Whereas, a memorial is planned to serve as a lasting reminder of the variety of national and ethnic groups which have been a part of this City's early days and its ongoing history; and Whereas, the memorial will serve as a key educational component of a walking tour of historic sites in the downtown as well as a driving tour of the cultural heritage sites in the City's neighborhoods; and Whereas, The Saint Paul Foundation has stepped forward to take the lead in managing and securing financial support for major elements of the City's 150th anniversary; and Whereas, The Saint Paul Foundation has agreed to assume responsibility for commissioning and funding the downtown and neighborhood historic tour materials as well as the lasting memorial as part of the 150th anniversary; and Whereas, the early settlers who were here at the time of the naming of Saint Paul and those who have come since then as immigrants, refugees, migrants, and settlers, have endowed this City with their energies, . creativity, values and traditions, Now therefore be it resolved; that the City of Saint Paul encourages the 150th anniversary's emphasis on cultural diversity including the commissioning by The Saint Paul Foundation of a memorial to commemorate that diversity; and - � Page 1 of 2 ;������� `�� � ���:,�#-�4 t� Be it further resolved; that the City of Saint Paul dedicates the southern 30 feet of land, measured from the bluff line, at the southeast corner of Kellogg Boulevard and Robert Street to be the site of that lasting memorial .
