91-1908 Council File # - / 0� Green Sheet # RESOLUTION CITY OF SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA Presented By(f/��',��i�'����-2=�'`'�-�_ Referred To Committee: Date 1 WHEREAS, the Beautification Committee of the District 14 Community Council, with 2 leadership by Macalester-Groveland resident Deb Alper, initiated a district-wide effort to 3 spruce up alleys in the Macalester-Groveland neighborhood; and 4 5 WHEREAS, neighborhood residents concerned about crime in the Macalester-Groveland 6 area joined forces with the Beautification Committee on an alley beautification project; and 7 8 WHEREAS, the groups' efforts included a May alley cleanup weekend, a plant exchange 9 event, and expert gardener advice; and 10 11 WHEREAS, the District 14 Community Council goals of stronger community spirit, a safer 12 neighborhood and a new awareness of alleys as public space have been achieved; and 13 14 WHEREAS, the Beautification Committee has recommended to the District 14 Community 15 Council that awards of inerit be issued to two dozen area residents; 16 17 WHEREAS, particularly outstanding gardens have been achieved by Maxine Hodge and 18 Don Muske and by Marlene Johnshoy and Phillip Rukavina and certificates of inerit were 19 received by Dee Dech, John Hay and Martha Wegner, Mary and Ladley Welfling, Dona 20 and Dick Dunn, Henri James Fanell, L,aura Schneck and Jim Blawat, Scott Gatty, eleven 21 homes on the Princeton-Sargent alley between Prior and Fairview, Bibi Larson, Marg 22 Westman, Dode Talbot, and Ken and Sheila Knudson; now therefore be it 23 24 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council acknowledge the achievements of safety and 25 beauty in the Macalester-Groveland area through the initiative of neighborhood residents 26 and the District 14 Community Council.
