WHEREAS, an Ordinance, Council Fi e No. 91 , granting permission to Macalester College
at 1600 Grand Avenue, Saint Paul, Minnesota, to construct, operate, and maintain telephone
conduits under and across Macalester Street between Summit and Lincoln Avenue, has been
prepared and introduced to the Council of the City of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, Macalester College has agreed to commence construction entirely at its own risk,
following the approval of this resolution and the issurance of all required permits; and
WHEREAS, Macalester College has agreed to the removal of the telephone cable and conduit and
completely restoring the right-of-way to the satisfaction of the Director of Public Works, in
the event said Ordinance fails to be approved by the Council of the City of Saint Paul; now
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that, pending the said Ordinance becoming effective, the Director of the
Department of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed to issue a permit to Macalester
College, 1600 Grand Avenue, Saint Paul, Minnesota, for the construction, operation, and
maintenance of said telephone cable under and across the Macalester Street right-of-way,
subject to the same conditions and requirements as set out in said Ordinance, pending before
the Council of the City of Saint Paul, informal approval of the construction, operation and
maintenance being hereby granted in anticipation of the final adoption and approval of said
Ordinance.

REQUIREMENTS
MACALESTER COLLEGE
TELEPHONE CONDUIT INSTALLATION UNDER
MACALESTER STREET BETWEEN SUMMIT AND LINCOLN AVENUES.
1. Install by pushing two (2) groups of conduits under Macalester Street for access to
buildings located at 77 Macalester Street and 37 Macalester Street. No open cut
trenching in the street.
2. Duct groups to be installed at 48" minimum depth below grade to the top of all
conduits. Detailed plans showing conduit construction is attached to the approved
preliminary plan.
, 3. Layout of conduit routing and measurements from curb lines are shown on the
attached preliminary plan. Duct bank locations may vary if underground utilities
interfere with installation. Approved "AS BUILT" plans signed by a registered land
surveyor or registered engineer will be submitted and kept on file in the
Departmerrt of Public Works.
4. Recommend moving connection to 37 Macalester, further south towards
Grand Avenue, to avoid possible conflicts with existing sewer connection and
sanitary mainline access structure. Contact Dave Dickhut at 292-6005.
5. Call Gopher State One at 454-0002 a minimum of 48 hours prior to construction for
locations of existing street light conduit.
6. If digging in the boulevard area is required to push under the street, contact the
Public Works Service Desk at 298-5151 with the location and to obtain a
Use-of-Street permit.
7. No excavation is permitted in the boulevards beneath the drip line of trees. The
bullet retrieval pits must be dug west of the public sidewalk.
