This clann arises from the Ciry and Skafer 6 Contracting's failure to properly separate the storm and sanitary sewers. Shafer Contracting 7 has agreed to pay twenry-five percent (25 %) of the total claims settlement. The net loss 8 payment by the Ciry will be $107,850.00. The City of Saint Paul Public Works Department, and Shafer Contracting, were jointly responsible for improper sewer separation work which caused this backup of sewage. At the Council meeting last night the Council passed Resolution 98-582 to settle a claim against the City for properiy damage. At that time, the Council requested that they receive a written report from you outlining the steps which have been taken by your department to prevent reoccurrence of this type of situation.
