1 WHEREAS, the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run was founded on the premise that if all
2 people from all nations can run in peace and harmony, then it is a small step for all nations to lives
3 in peace and harmony; and
4
5 WHEREAS, the biannual Peace Run began in 1987 with 55 participating countries and has grown to
6 include 70 countries covering 30,000 miles; the world's longest global relay for peace; and
7
8 WHEREAS, the Oneness Home Peace Run began on April 19, 1991, when representatives from over
9 70 countries gathered in New York City and lit their respective peace torches from a single flame,
10 as a symbol of unity. These runners then returned to their respective lands to launch a series of
11 relay runs for peace; and

13 WHEREAS, the Peace Run will pass through the Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis on
14 Wednesday, June 25, 1991, and will be highlighted by a joint city dedication, but not a renaming, of
15 the Marshall-Lake Street bridge as a linking of the two cities together; and
16
17 WHEREAS, Sri Chinmoy, the world renowned ambassador of peace will be present in St. Paul on
18 June 25 to participate in the ceremonies to be conducted at the Marshall-Lake Street bridge and at
19 the State Capitol; and
20
21 WHEREAS, distance r.inners from the Twin Cities and the State of Minnesota have been invited to
22 participate in this historic peace run, and also joining the peace run will be some 150 youth from
23 our St. Paul parks and recreation program, and now, therefore, be it
24
25 RESOLVED, that June 25, 1991, is recognized as Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run Day in St.
26 Paul and we call upon all citizens to lend their moral, intellectual or physical support to this historic
27 plea for world-wide peace.
