one year and may be extended for up to one additional year by the Office of Human Resources. Because of the
significant testing costs, exposnre to litigation, and the significantly large number of candidates who apply, we
propose allowing the Fire Fighter eligible lisi xo be extended for up to one additional year. Therefore, whereas other
Civil Service eligible lists may be in effect for up to two years, the Fire Fighter list may be in effect for up to three
years. (CTnder present stipulation of agreement, the current list was in effect for over four years and 104 persons
were anAainted.l

savings to the City. Becausa of the large number of applicants who apply, typically 300d persons, we do not believe
that the quality of candidates would be diminished by appointing additionai applicants high up on the list. 'Fhis rule
change would appiy only to the Fire Figtiter titie. An ea�tension would be discretionary and lists would not
autamatically be extended. _ _
