SUBJECT: Brid;e ReplacementlRehabilitatian Using State Transponation Bond Funds
As we have discussed with Counry and City representatives, we are revising the
process for advisina our office of intent to use State Transportation Bonds (bridge
bonding) for repiacement or rehabilitation of deficient bridges; and the process of
selecting projects for fundin with Bond funds.
In order to identify the short term needs for bridge bonds, and to document each local
government's intent to proceed promptiy with a project, if brid;e bonds are made
available, we are asking each County and City, proposing bridge
replacement/rehabilitation projects within the next five years, to adopt the attached
resolution and submit it to the State Aid Division.
We will consider the resolutions we receive as pre-application for bridge bonding and
wil] use them to develop the Capitol Budget Request for the 1998 leislative session.
We will also prioritize the bridges included in the resolutions and use that priority list _
to select bridges to receive the desienated amount of bridge bonding authorized by the
legislature.
We wani to I:now the specific bridees which are candidates for bridge bondin and that
the loca] govemments are committed to proceed wich those bridees, if bond funds are
made available. We believe this infonnation will make it easier to document the bridge
bonding need and will provide proof that the authorized funds will be utilized, as the
Capitol Budeet Request is considered in the leoislative process.
