WHEREAS, If he had worked one day in January, 1998 he wouid have been eligible for normal setirement and
his widow would have been eligible for the second portion of a 100 percent joint and survivor annuity; and
WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Minnesota passed enabling legislation (Laws 1998, Chapter 390,
Article 2, Sections 17 and 18) which provide that Mrs. Juenemann 6e eligible for the second portion of a 100
percent joint and survivor optionai annuity under Minnesota Statutes, section 353.31, subdivision 1b and
that the City of Saint Paul reimburse the public empioyees retirement association for the entire cost of this
benefit i�crease less any amount appropriated from the State General Fund; and
WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Saint Paul has approved this enabling legislation and the Citys
share of this cost is $63,395; and
WHEREAS, The Mayor, in accordance with Section 10.07.1 of the City Charter, recommends the foNowing
adjustments for 1998:

time in January 1998, he wwld have been eligible for nortnal retirement under PERA. His widow would then have been eligible to receive the second
portion of a 100 percent joint a� surviwr am�uiTy. The Minnesota Legislature passed a bill allowing her to receive the enhanced beneSt. The bill was
signed by the Govemor but requires approval by the St Paul City Cow�cil. The State is contributing $10,000 far this enhancement. The City is
responsible for the remaining $63,395.
