2 PAUL
3 WFIEREAS, Minnesota Depariment of Public Safety Assistant Commissioner Debarah Montgomery is being chosen
4 as the recipient of both the Minnesata Association of Women Police (MAWP) and the Cazolen Bailey Mentoring
5 Award; and
6 WFiEREAS, Ms. Deborah Montgomery began her service as a Police Officer for the City of Saint Paul in
7 September, 1975 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in November 1987; and
8 WHEREAS, Ms. Deborah Montgomery was both the first African-American female officer hired by the City of
9 Saint Paui and the first female officer to work the street beginning in 1975; and
10 WHEREAS, Ms. Deborah Montgomery's mentorship to young women and men during her tenure of service to the
11 community through her career as a law enforcement officer and her leadership in the community has touched the
12 lives of many of the citizens of the City of Saint Paul; and
13 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul City Councii wishes to acknowledge the contribution that Ms. Deborah
14 Montgomery has and will continue to make to the City of Saint Paul; now therefore be it
15 RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul City Council does hereby proclaim that April 30, 1998 as Deborah
16 Montgomery Day in the City of Saint Paul.
