WHEREAS, the Future Force program has operated as a service
learning program in Saint Paul since September, 1994, and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul was awarded federal
Americorps and state Youth Works grant funding for the Future
Force program in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997, and
6 WHEREAS, the federal Americorps Program and the state Youth
7 Works program have awarded the City of Saint Paul $382,086 of
8 additional qrant funding for continuation of the Future Force
9 program through September, 1999, and
10 WHEREAS, the Future Force program engages up to 25 young
11 people in service learning projects which create positive impacts
12 on neighborlioods throughout Saint Paul,
13 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council
14 authorizes the proper city officials to accept and expend these
15 grants totaling $382,086 from the Americorps and Youth Works
16 programs and enter into the necessary agreements for the
17 implementation of Future Force.

them to develop a strong work ethic, a heightened sense of personal responsibility, and enhanced self-esteem. The
