1 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is undertaking the redevelopment of "block 39," bounded by Wabasha, Saint
2 Peter, Fifth and Si�th Streets in downtown Saint Paul for Lawson Software to locate in the City, and;
3 WI-IEREAS, Lawson Software is moving to downtown Saint Paul in order to lease adequate accommodations for its
4 operations and its rapidly growing workforce— currently projected to grow by 200 employees by the yeaz 2000 and;
5 WHEREAS, this downtown redevelopment project involves the expenditure of approicimately $101.5 million, and
6 has the potential to bring many and varied benefits to the downtown area and riverfront, and;
7 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is likely to reap the greatest benefit from this redevelopment project if Lawson
8 Software is able to ezcpand its workforce with Saint Paul residents who are in need of jobs which will provide living
9 wages and excellent future prospects; now, therefore be it
10 RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul City Council directs that an amount equal to 'h of 1 percent of the project
11 financing be used to train 1001ow-income Saint Paul residents, at an es[imated cost of $5,075 per resident trainee,
12 over the next three years in a high technology computer training program established to meet the needs of Lawson
13 Software for its future employees; and be it
14 RESOLVED, that the City's Department of Planning and Economic Development prepare a plan, for September
15 24, 1997 review by the City Council.
