97-953� 4 ! f � � � �{, � F :u t Y ` ��� RESOLUT{ON Council File # � t '- 15� Green sheet # �� s � �i PAUL, MINh1ESOTA 2 Presented By Referred To Committee: Date 4 5 6 WE�REAS, the City of Saint Paul has been awarded an NHI, expansion team to begin play in a new atena at 7 RiverCentre in the year 2000 and, 9 WHEREAS, the City Council and HRA have approved the financing plan and authorized city staffto begin the 10 design and construcrion of a new $130 million hockey/multi-use azena on the site of the current arena, and 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 14 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 WF3EREA5, the City Council has approved the Amended and Restated Term Sheet between the City and the NHL expansion team in which it is stated the conceptual design of the new arena will be mutually agreed uQon by the Team, City and Civic Center Authority and that a design team will be composed of representatives from each entity, and WHEREAS, it is important far the potential members of the design teasn to gain experience and expertise in the design of first-class arena facilities across the country, and WFIEREAS, the Team, represented by Minnesota Hockey Ventures, and the architectural firm of Hellmuth, Ohata and Kassabaum, Inc (HOK) and Hubbard Broadcasting Inc. have generously offered to anange for the travel, hotel and meal ea�penses of the arena design team which wili likely consist of several City Council members, City staff and representatives of the Civic Center Authority, and '' WHEREAS, under state Law and City Charter and Administrative Code, the City of 5aint Paul can accept gifts for and on behalf of the City , which gifts then become property of the City and are available for appropriation by the City Councfl for public purposes, now therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SAINT PAUL CTTY COi3NCIL: 1. The City accepts the kind offer of the Team, HOK and Hubbard Broadcasting Inc, to the City of Saint Paul of e�enses related to travel, meals and lodging for a tour of appro�znately seven cities across the country, and Z. The City Council finds and determines that the attendance of councilmembers, city staff and Civic Center Authority representatives at this tour is of benefit to the citizens of Saint Paul and seroes a public purpose by allowing attendees to understand the elements of design in azena construction and to better the final design of the future downtown Saint Paut arena and appropriates the gifts for the use above stated, and be it FINALLY RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul estends its thanks and deepest appreciation to M'innesota Hockey Ventures, HOK and Hubbard Broadcasting Inc. for their generous contribution and for advancing an exciting new development of benefit to Saint Paul and the entire State of 1vI'innesota.
