Why): As a result of the City replacement af a section of sanitary sewer during the Summer of 1994, the ground water was ailowed to return to its natural state. The Miller's sewer service line was be{ow this natura{ ground water level and, due to some cracks on their sewer line, the grou�d water caused a backup of the Miller's sewage. In order to repair their sewer Iine, extensive dewatering activities were necessary. This greatly increased the cost of repair. The bill was in excess of $30,000. The Miller's attorney has negotiated a compromisa of that bill. The City of Saint Paul will pay 570,000, and the Miller's will pay 59,000. In addition, the Milier's agree to release the City of Saint Paul from any further claims they may have as a result of this incident.
