Committee Date WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council is greatly conczmed about the uemendous physical, emotional and social dawage caused by youth who are involved in gun violence, and WIIEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council is awaze that there aze a many gun violence programs which have been initiated in Minnesota and throughout the country, and WF�REAS, the Saint Paul City Council wishes to take advantage of the experiences of these gun violence programs when formulating a gun violence initiative for the City of Saint Paul, now, therefore be it RESOLVED, that Council Reseazch is to conduct a study to: 10 11 12 13 14 [F7 1. Describe the gun violence programs that have been undertaken in this and other jurisdictions 2. Report on the success of these programs as documented by empirical research 3. Report on the essential elements of successful programs 4. Report on the relative cost-effectiveness of successful programs and 5. Based on this research, and in consultation with the Saint Pau1 Police Department and other interested community groups, to recommend a gun violence initiative for the City of Saint Paul at a cost not to exceed $50,000 annually, and be it fiuther RESOLVED, that this report is to be presented to the City Council by June 30, 1997.
