Whereas, the City has the oppornuuty to make a presentation to the Board of Governors of
the National Hockey League for fhe purpose of locating an NHL, franchise in Saint Paul;
Whereas, the location of an NFIL franchise in Saint Paul would be of significant public
benefit to the City such benefits to include additional jobs, tax revenues, and tourism.
Whereas, the Mayor of Saint Paul and a designated staff person wili be trauelling to New
York City to assist in making the presentation to the NHL Boazd of Governors;
VJhereas, the Capital City Partnership has offered to pay for the expenses that will be incurred
in connection with the Mayor's trip to New York; and
Whereas, under state law and Ciry Charter and Admnustrative Code, the City of Saint Paul
can accept gifts for and on behalf of the City, which gifts then become property of the City
and are available for appropriation by the City Council for public purposes.
Now, Therefore, be it Resolved by the Saint Paul City Council:
1. Tke City Council accepts the offer of the Capital City Partnerslxip to pay travel, meals,
lodging, and related expenses (hereafter "Gi$"} for a trip to New York City from on or
about January 12, 1997 through on or about Januaiy 14, 1997 for the purpose of making a
presentation to the NHL Board of Governors for location of a NHL franchise in Saint Paul.
2. The City Council appropriates the use of the Gift to the Mayor and a staff person
designated by the Mayor.
