RESOLUTION i WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul desires to improve the safety of its neighborhoods; and 2 WHEREAS, additional street lighting is perceived by tlie public as a deterrent to crime and an improvement of 3 public safety; and 4 WHEREAS, many residents, iacluding mairy senior citizens, view improved street lighting as a necessity to waiking 5 in the community during evening hours; and 6 WHEREAS, the City Council has established and the Public Warks Department has implemented a policy for the 7 installation of stop signs on neighborhood streets, CF 93-157; and 8 WHEREAS, the City Comicii has determined that citizens should also be able to petition to get additional street 9 lighting; 10 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we do hereby approve a policy for the installation of additional ll street lighting on local streets if the location is requested by petition from the abutting property owners and approved 12 by tlie local district council and the Public Works Department, or a Public Heazing before the City Council.
