WHEREAS, the C�ltural STAR Progam is funded with ten percent of an addirional one-half of one percent sales taY on sales
transactions that occur within the city, pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 297A, authorized by the State of Minnesota,
ChapterNo. 375, Sec.46; and
WIIEREAS, the purpose of the Cultural STAR Prog. is to fund capital projecu to further cultural and visitor service activities; and
WHEREAS, the Cultural STAR Board, in cycle 2(1996), recommended funding for the Pazk Squaze Theater Marquee; and,
WIIEREAS, Samt Paul CiTy Council approval for the project was delayed pending artist ageement to demolirion of the old
mazquee; and,
WIIEREAS, that agreement has now been obtained as evidenced in attaclunent A; and,
WIiEREAS, approval of this project at this point means the Markhasn Company of Saint Paul has six months to secure a private
match commihnent, comply with project stipulations and sign a STAR agreement; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor, Pursuant to section 10.071 of the City Charter, recommends changes to the 1997 budget as listed below.
NOW, TE�REFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council approves grant funding in the amount of $36,400 for the Pazk Square
