WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Saint Paul, together with its City Clerk, has duly canvassed the
retiuvs and votes at the City General Election held Tuesday, November 4, 1997, and
WHEREAS, it appears from said returns as reflected on the attached printout and the canvass thereof
that the following named persons received more votes than any other candidate or person for election for:

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that each of the aforesaid persons be and is hereby declazed �� ��� ��
elected to the respecrive o�ces as designated above and the Ramsey County Bureau of Elections is hereby
instructed and directed to notify them of their election and to issue and deliver to them the proper certificates
4 of elections; and
6 WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Saint Paul, together with its City Clerk has duly canvassed the
7 retum of the votes cast on the 4th day of November, 1997, upon the ratification or rejection of an amendment
8 to the Saint Paul Charter so as to provide tbat City officers and employees shall be placed on unpaid leave of
9 absence from their city positions while holding any city elected office, including the offices of mayor and city
10 councilmember; and
11
12 WHEREAS, it appeazs from said returns a canvass thereof that 40,975 electors voted in favor of the
13 adoption of said amendment to the Charter and 14,613 voted against adoption thereof; and
14
15 WI�REAS, Saint Paul City Charter provides that such amendment must be approved by a majority of
16 those voting on the amendment, now, therefore, be it
17
18 RESOLVED, that said amendment to the Saint Paul City Charter is hereby declazed to have received a
19 favorable majority of the votes cast upon the question and to haue passed for adoption;
