This is one of the smailest lots on University Avenue. Dr. Kimbie presented photographs, advising that the building is approatimately 20' wide hy 50' deep. (1} The south side abuts the city sidewalk. (2) The west side abuts a vacant lot with the grade at street level. Seepage from that lot runs toward Dr. Kimbles' building. (3) The east side is next to a building with a distance of 30" between foundations and a grade approximately 1'/z feet higher. Water flows onto Dr. Kimbles' property from the back. (4) With respect to the north side, Dr. Kimble stated that an inspector suggested piacing a gusset in the roof or tapping into the roof drain and running a pipe out. Dr. Kimble advised that this area is used for employee and patient pazking. The dirt line runs up to five feet on the back of the building. If a gusset or pipe is piaced there, 1,000 square feet of water will be transferred to 100,000 square feet of space. Kazl Jol�nson, Public Works, advised that the storm sewer is on the south side of University and Ar. Kimbles' property is on the north side. Mr. Johnson stated that he believes storm water from other commercial buildings on the north side of University goes to the ground. Mr. Johnson presented photographs and advised that Public Works believes running to the north side of the building is a viable option. They suggest lowering the grade, understanding that there will be some water and ice. With respect to the suggestion of lowering the grade on the north side, Dr. Kimble stated that the retaining wall on the west side would have to be dealt with. Also, a retaining wall will be needed on the east side. Estunated cost is $3,004-$4,00�. In spite of the fact the owner is difficult to contact and deal with, Dr. Kimble indicated he will attempt to ask for pemussion to pipe water onto the vacant property on the west side. He witl investigate options with respect to the back azea as well. Unit #305 is occupied by Floyd & Kira Fairow and four children, ages 8 and under. , Laura Jelinek, attomey, asked that tfie vacate date be e�ctended in order to avoid a homeless situation for this family. Ms. 7elinek presented photographs of the current living space which she feels is adequate. Her office, however, is searching for other housing. Ms. Jelinek regorted this can be accomplished within several months. Ms. Jelinek stated her concern that tlus situation was initiated by the landlord out of retaliation. Mr. Fairow stated that there were some problems with the landtord and also that he no longer lives there himself. Gerry Slrathman, Legislative Hearing Officer, granted a ninety (90) day extension to the family to find new housing. Mr. Strathman laid this matter over to February 3, 1998.
