Property Code Enforcement Meeting
September 2, 1997
Gerry Strathxnan, Legislative Hearing Officer, called the meeting to order at 130 p.m.
873 Wilson Avenue
Leslie Epperson, owner, appeazed and stated the letter she received from the Citizen Service
Office had the wrong address: she lives at 536 3herburne, but the property being appealed is
873 Wilson Avenue. Ms. Epperson stated she cannot afford the $200 vacant building fee. The
property has been vacant since May 15, 1997.
Gerry Strathman stated the $200 annual vacant building fee was established to offset the cost the
City incurs for monitoring these buildings because inspectors are continually sent out to make
sure the buildings aze still secure. If the building is vacant, Mr. Strathman stated there is not
much he can do because the City code requires the vacant building fee be charged.
Leslie Epperson stated she has been in touch with Economic Development and was told that the
building has to be emptied completely of furniture before they will help her with it. Ms.
Epperson plans to renovate the building and ]ive there with her two children. She is interested in
time payments. Gerty Strathman stated he would have someone from Public Health ca11 her
about payment options, if there are any.
Gerry Strathman denied the appeal and informed Lesiie Epperson she can appear before the City
Council about waiving the fee on September 10, 1997.
The meeting was adjourned at 137 p.m.
