Ms. Epperson stated she cannot afford the $200 vacant building fee. The property has been vacant since May 15, 1997. Gerry Strathman stated the $200 annual vacant building fee was established to offset the cost the City incurs for monitoring these buildings because inspectors are continually sent out to make sure the buildings aze still secure. If the building is vacant, Mr. Strathman stated there is not much he can do because the City code requires the vacant building fee be charged. Leslie Epperson stated she has been in touch with Economic Development and was told that the building has to be emptied completely of furniture before they will help her with it. Ms. Epperson plans to renovate the building and ]ive there with her two children. She is interested in time payments. Gerty Strathman stated he would have someone from Public Health ca11 her about payment options, if there are any. Gerry Strathman denied the appeal and informed Lesiie Epperson she can appear before the City Council about waiving the fee on September 10, 1997.
