WHEREAS, a partnership of 3M Media, KSTP-TV, and the Minneapolis Ins6tute of
Arts has created a program that will foster artistic, developmental and community cultural
awareness, endtled the Students Art Project, and
�i'HEREAS, students from the Saint Paul and Minneapolis Public Schools were
encouraged to submit entries for billboard designs based on the theme "Bridging Cultures
Through Art," and
WHEREAS, entries were submitted by the students and in Mazch, 1996, a panel of
community leaders judged a final group of selections in order to choose four which will be
displayed on billboards in the Twin Cities throughout the summer of 1996, and
WHEREAS, throughout the months of May and June, designs were shown on KSTP-
TV Channel Five with a grant unveiling and display of ail the artwork at a reception on
May 19, 1996, at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts,
NOW, TIIEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Saint Paul City Council hopes that
the StudenYs Art Project will be continued, in order to foster creativity, develop in students
a sense of initiaflve, and become a stepping stone on the road to success for these elementary
students, and

29 BE TT FINALLY RFSOLVID, the Saint Paul City Council congratulates not only
30 those students whose art was chosen to be displayed on billboards, but each and every one of
31 the students who submitted entries, because they are each "wumers" for their fine efforts.
