WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Minnesota has appropriated $� 50,000 for the City of Saint Paul for a
Weed and Seed Program modeled on the federal Weed and Seed Program, and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul via the Saint Paul Police Department wishes to make application for the
Weed and Seed funding, and
WHEREAS, the Mayor of Saint Paul has designated Railroad Island as an appropriate Weed and Seed site, and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul via the Saint Paul Police Department apply
for the State of Minnesota Weed and Seed grant program.

INITIATING PROBLEM, ISSUE. OPPOFiTUNIN (Who, Whet, When, Where, Why):
The State of Minesota Legislature appropriated $150,000 for the City of Saint Paul for a
local Weed and Seed application, aptterned after the federal Weed and Seed program. The
name derives fxom the four components of the program: 1) law enforcement activity in a
defined neighborhood which is stressed due to economic and social needs, 2) cou�unity
policing approach to the crime problem in the neighborhood, 3) crime prevention and inter-
vention projects to further stabilize the neighborhood and 4) housing revitalization in __
order to return the neighborhood to its former vitality.
