(EXPLAIN) a�-�oyl Days to Honor Parents July 23rd and July 28th In 1995 President Clinton signed into law a new day of commemoration just like Mothers Day or Fathers Day. It is called Parents Day and it is to be celebrated each year on the fourth Sunday of July . In the resolution it states: "All private citizens, organizations, and governmental bodies at the local, State and Federal levels are encouraged to recognize Parent's Day through proclamations, activities, and educational efforts in furtherance of recognizing, uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in rearing of children." *�x**��x*****�x**�x�x****�x*x��x�**�***�x�x**�x�x��xx�x�x�*�***�x�x***�**�*�x**�x An awazds ceremony will be held at the capitol steps 1'uesday, July 23rd at noon. The melodic seven piece horn band, Junction will begin setting the mood at 11:00 o'clock. Local celebrities and govemment officials will honor couples and individuals who have done exceptional and exemplary work in child rearing. All are invited to attend this program. Locai nominees wiil be honored at picnic celebrations recognizing all parents and grandparents on Sunday, July 28th, the actual commemorative holiday. Nick Carter President of Parents Inc. reported on a recent nationwide study that he conducted for the Pew Foundation. He reported, "There is a gte�at enormity and comple�city to the parenting education field." As he iraveled around the country examining programs, he, "saw �markable efforts and people that moved him to tears and stories that nced to be shared and celebrated." Of the many parenting programs in the country, (over 50,000), the l�iationai Parents Day Coalition seEks to bring these programs together, to foster networking, and provi� education and training of parenting professionals with the latest developments in the field Besides recognizing and celebrating those who are maldng strides in the parenfing field as individuals and or the coalition, most of atl, wishes that honor, tributes and recognifion be bestowed upon the most important segment of out society - parents. During iis first year, in 1994 befare the bill was signecl, The Parent's day Coalifion gave recognition to, among others, entertainers who were honored for the'u roles as positive role models in television. Honorees included: Bill Cosby and Felicia Rashad - the Cosby Show; Barbara Biliingsley - Leave it to Beaver, Harriet nelson - Ozzie and Hatriet; 3ohn Forsythe - Bachior Father; and Florance Henderson - The Brady Bunch. Once the bill was passed and then signed into law, the mission was then to educate the publia Several corporations contributed to help produce a weekend of activities in Washington DC.
