RE: Raise of Pay Scale for Parks and Recreation Assistant
In 1995, the duties of Refectory Helper and Recreation Aide were combined to
form the new title of Parks and Recreation Assistant. At that time, the existing
pay rate for Refectory Helper was adopted for the new t+tle, and those
employees who had been Recreat+on Aides were upgraded $.25 per hour.
The current pay rate fcr Parks and Recreation Assistan: was last adjusted in
1 g89. Since that time, rising private sector wage levels and a stagnent City level
have left the City at a distinct disadvantage in recruiting and retaining employees
in this title.
Entry levei service persons at fast food chains like McDonalds or Burger King
earn $6.00 per hour or more. Our entry level Parks and Recreation Assistants
earn $4.50 per hour. Our recreation operations are direclty competeing with the
McDonald's, Burger Kings and other fast food chains for eUa'�ee� oi eesed to

With our peak hiring time approaching, I am recommending the foliowing
changes in salary rates for the Parks and Recreation Assistant title be adopted
