WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, (MnDO�, is about to let a contract for
an estimated amount of $186,920 for the reconstruction of the traffic signa{s on Maryland
Avenue, (County State Aid Highway 31), at the east and west ramps of Trunk Highway I-35E,
and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Department of the Ciry of Saint Paul will supply the MnDOT
contractor with the signal control cabinets and emergency vehicle preemption detectors at each
ramp, and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul Public Works Department will be reimbursed for the above
material supplied to the contractor by the following splits in financing: State of Minnesota,
$14,040; Ramsey County, $10,800; and Minnesota State Aid, $10,000; and
WHEREAS, the above financing splits were agreed upon by the City of St. Paul, MnDOT,
Ramsey County, and Minnesota Municipal State Aid through the terms stated in MnDOT
agreement number 74951, and
WHEREAS, City of Saint Paul Department of Public Works staff have reviewed the above
agreement and recommend that it be approved and executed, now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul hereby approves Minnesota
Department of Transportation agreement number 74951, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul hereby directs that the
proper City officials be authorized to execute the above agreement and sign all documents
associated with it.

INITIATING PROBLEM. ISSUE, OPPORNNIN (WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY).
MnDOT is about to let a contract to reconstruct the traffic signals on Maryland Avenue at the east and west ramps of I-35E.
The Public Works Department will supply the MnDOT contractor with signal control and emergency preemption material.
This agreement stipulates financing responsibilities of each agency and covers the cost of reconstruction, as weli as
maintena�ce and operation responsibilities for the traffic signals.
This agreement must be approved and signed before the June 28, 1996, MnDOT contract award date; otherwise,
agreement cannot be executed by MnDOT and funding for City share of work will be eliminated.
ADVANTAGESIFAPPflOVED:
Traffic signal systems will be reconstructed to current standards. Pedestrian safety will be enhanced. Energy saving LED
signal indications will be installed. Majority of construction costs will be at State and County expense while City
maintenance costs will be reduced.
