Property Code Enforcement Meeting
May 7,1996
616 Montcaim Place
William Busch, attorney for property owner, appeazed and stated that the roof of the building was flat wath
an internal rainleader nng from the roof through the center of the building and connecting to the sewer
system. He presented pictures and drawings of the properiy. He pointed out that the south side of the
building had an eatemal drainTge system and that the problem with any fizrther eernal drainage system was
that there wasn't any place for the rain water to go that would not have adverse consequences to the properiy
and the neighbor's properry.
Alexandra Boardman, properiy owner, appeared and stated that she had replaced the roof in 1992 at a cost
of $12,000. She did not believe it would be financially feasible to make further repairs or modifications to
the roof at this time.
Cluence Waage appeazed and stated that he was the conshucfion supervisor for this home when it was built
in 1451. He had recently inspected the home and stated that he did not believe there was a feasible manner
in which to disconnect the rainleader to allow for drainage of the roof as the water would drain down onto the
neighbor's properry as well as onto the sidewalk and driveway of Mrs. Boardman's properry. He also did not
believe it would be feasible to construct a pitch to the roof that would allow for adequate drainage of rain
water.
Pat Cahanes, Public Works, stated that he had attempted to contact Mrs. Boardman concerning options in
dealing with the drainage of rain water from the roof of her home and he received no response. He presented
pictures of the roof of the property as well as a diagram of the roof outlining the area for potential drain
spouts. There were several ponding areas on the roof caused by settlement which was not allowing for
complete drainage of watet into the intemal rainleader. He pointed out that there were capacity problems in
this azea in the sewer system.
Mr. Strathman stated that given the fact that the property owner had recently installed a new roof he would
grant a five year variance far disconnection of the rainieader. He suggested, however, that the owner work
at fmding a feasible way in wluch to disconnect the rainleader within that time.
