96-479���������`:�- Presented By Referzed To � � �� \,�� s��� v� c RESOLUTION OF SAINT PAUL, M' Council File # � v + � � Ordinance # Green Sheet # �� Date WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Business Review Council has held extensive with representatives of the Saint Paul t�icab industry conceming the po currently is 120) on the number of taxicab licenses issued in the City of : � gs during the last sis months ty of lifting the cap (which Paul, and WHEREAS, The BRC, through its Taxicab Regulation Committee, c ed by Kathleen Laiberte of Beckman Produce, has thought&lly considered the issue and deternrined un ously that lifting the cap will help increase compe6tion and improve taxicab service in the long run ' the City of Saint Paul, and WF3EREAS, several representatives of the Taa�icab Industry e suggested that the City consider changing the present uniform fare shucture by establishing a ceiling floor for taa�icab fazes in the City to further promote competition, and WHEREAS, the BRC, and its Taxicab Regulation decided that there is a lack of information on whic in the City, and w WHEREAS, the BRC has determined that action is taken to eliminate the cap on the � �nittee, has discussed changing the fare structure and base decisions to set optimum fares for taxicab service ion to change the faze structure, taken at the same tnne that of licenses, could seriously destabilize the industry, and WHEREAS, the BRC recognizes that t re is a need to establish an objective process for determining optimum fares for taxicab service in City of Saint Paul, now, therefore be it RESOLVED, that the Council of e City of Saint Paul does hereby approve the establistunent of a Taxicab Rate Review Committee made of one representative from each licensed Taxicab company operating in the City of Saint Paul. INITIATING PROBLEM, ISSIIE, OPPORTUNITY (Who, What, When, Where, Why): he City of Saint Paul Business Review Council has developed a Taxicab Committe to look at the issues surrounding the taxicab industry. It has ecided that the best course of action with regard to the fare issue is to engourage the industry to come up with a structure which best suits its needs and the needs of its customers.
