WHEREAS, the City Council adopted Council File #95-1365 dated November 15, 1995, said
resolution being the Fina1 Order for the HATCH/PARK AREA STREET PAVING AND
LIGHTING PROJEC°T, identified as File No. 18799, and
WHEREAS, Magnolia Street from Sylvan Street to Park Street was one of the streets to be
improved with a new bituminous roadway; concrete curb, gutter, driveway aprons and outwalks;
boulevazd sodding; tree planting and a lantem style street lighting system, and
WHEREAS, the property owners abutting Magnolia Street from Sylvan Street to Park Street
submitted a petition to the Department of Public Works requesting that a bent straw lighting
system be installed instead of the lantern style street lighting system, and
WHEREAS, seventy-suc percent (76%) of the said property owners signed the petition which is
more than the required seventy percent (70%) signatures as staxed in the Saint Paul Street
Lighting Policy adopted by the City Council on October 12, 1989, and
WHEREAS, the Land Use Task Force of the District 6 Planning Council approves of the
change from lantern styles lights to the bent straw lights.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council deletes the construction of a
lantem style street lighting system ($4.08 per assessable foot) on said Magnolia Street and adds
the consuucrion of a bent suaw lighting system ($2.56 per assessable foot) on said Magnolia
Street.

Attached is a copy of the letter I recieved from District 6 regarding installation of Bent Straw lighting on
Magnolia Street from Slyvan to Park in the above referenced project.
If it is necessary to revise the final order, it should be amended as follows:
Delete construction of a lantem style lighting system on Magnolia Street from Syivan to Pazk.
Add construction of a bent straw style li�hting system on Maa olia Street from Sylvan to Pazk.
This revision will reduce the Project Estimate by approx. $1,800.00

property owners who signed the petition to have bent straw lighting in place of the

Attached is a copy of a petition from Mr. Joseph G. Merkle requesting bent
Straw type street lighting in place of Decorative Lan'terns on Magnolia St.
from Sylvan to Park. Mr. Merkle claims to have acquired 96% of the
affected property owners' signatures in favor of the request.
In accordance with the St. Paul Street Lighting Policy this request must be
reviewed and commented upon by the District Council prior to City Council
action. Accordingly, I am requesting the date and location for this review.
John, please verify that at least 70% of the affected property owners are
signatories.
