WHEREAS, the University of Minnesota (University) has constructed and is operating an
"Inter" campus busway between the Saint Paul and Minneapolis campuses; and
WFiEREAS, to provide safe and efficient movement of vehicles, traffic signals were installed at
Energy Park Drive and the transitway and Como Avenue and the transitway; and
WHEREAS, a condition of the installation of the signals was that the City of Saint Paul Public
Works Department be responsible for all maintenance and all costs of maintenance and
electricity be the responsibility of the University of Minnesota; and
WHEREA,S, both Saint Paul and the University of Minnesota are authorized pursuant to
Minnesota Satutes 471.59 to enter into such an agreement; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the proper City officials are authorized to execute and approve, on
behalf of the City of Saint Paul, the joint powers agreement identifying responsibilities for the
traffic signals at Energy Park Drive and the U. of M. transitway and Como Avenue and the
U. of M. transitway.

The University requested and paid for the installation of two (2) traffic signals on the U of M bus transitway at Energy Park
Drive and at Como Avenue. A requirement of the permissio� to do so was that Public Works wouid be the responsible
maintenance agency with all maintenance costs the responsibilily of the.�aer�Ly. The maintenance agreement
formalizes that requirement.
