Installa ion, maintenance and guarantee. 15 16 (a) Installation. 17 18 The property owner �r agent must distinctly state, and mark, the 19 point on the propertylline where the street service connection is to 20 enter the premises. W ter service connections shall be installed in 21 accordance with waterjutility standards. The point where the street 22 service connection is to enter the property must be distinctly marked, 23 by a stake, by the ow er or agent before the street service connection 24 is installed, and sai stake shall be marked "water" and shall be no 25 closer to the house d ain location than ten (10) feet horizontall�. 26 27 (b) Limits of insta lation and maintenance. 28 29 The water utility s all install all that part of the water service 30 connection or fire se vice from the street main to the property line, 31 and shall maintain it in the manner provided in section 87.03 (e) and 32 section 89.10. The ba ance of the water service connection or fire 33 service connection be ween the property line and the meter shall be 34 installed and at all imes maintained bv the owner. Certain obstacles 35 such as trees, utilit'es, retaining walls and other obstructions may 36 make it advisable for the owner or the owner's plumber to install a 37 replacement water ser ice connection from the meter to the stop valve 38 in the boulevard. Suc an installation may be authorized by the water 39 utility if, after re 'ew by the utility it is deemed to be in the best 40 inter.ests of both par ies. Service connection piping installed by the 41 owner's plumber betw n the property line and the stop valve in the 42 boulevard with water tility approval shall be guaranteed as if it has 43 been installed by th water utility. a�--�4�t 1 (c) Authorized mate 'al - existing street service connections. - 2 3 If an existing stre service connection e�tends to a property on 4 which a new building i proposed, application for use of the street 5 service connection to erve said building shall not be accepted if the 6 existing street servic connection is constructed of lead or 7 galvanized iron. A ne application for water service must be made and 8 paid for by the owner.. 9 10 (d) Authorized mater - regair. 11 12 Service connections hall be replaced and not repaired if 13 constructed of lead or galvanized iron. 14 15 (e) Street service con ections; maintenance and guarantee. 16 17 The Giater Utility will without expense to the property owner, make 18 all necessary repairs to'and maintain that part of the street service 19 connection installed by he water utility. Service connection piping 20 installed by the propert owner or property owner's contractor shall 21 be repaired and maintain d by the property owner except as provided in 22 Sec. 87.03b. Fire servic connections shall be �uaranteed as arovided in 23 Sec. 89.10. 24 25 (f) Lead street servic replacements. 26 27 Lead street service co nections supplying existing buildings will be 27 replaced by the water ut lity with copper pipe at no cost to the 29 property owner whenever he property owner shall at their own e:cpense 30 replace that portion of he lead pipe from the property line to the 31 water meter. 32 33 Existing lead street s rvice connections which are 1 1/2-inch in 34 size and smaller will be,replaced with 1-inch or 1 1/2-inch copper 35 pipe as determined by th water utility. Two-inch lead street service 36 connections will be repl ced with 2-inch copper pipe. BACKGROUND INFOR ATION Section 87.03 was recently amended to guarantee all (domestic and commercial) street service c nnections. The perpetual guarantee does not include fire services. The pr posed code change is necessary to clarify the code regarding fire services wh ch are guaranteed for a 30-year period.
