Application for Affirmative Action mmission
What skills /training or experience do you possess for the committee for which you seek
appointment?
I have been active an working toward a better life for people of this area. I have included a brief
synapsis of my past activities, positions I have held in the past. Since 1972 when I joined the
State of Minnesota Job Service, I have concentrated my efforts in trying to help employers
keeping in compliance with the law which was called Affirmative Action. President Regan
killed the name, but the compliance law is very much in existence although not respected by
local, federal and state not to mention private industry.

Dear Vice President Gore:
I am contacting you today regarding some suggested improvements in
the way the national gove nment monitors equal opportunity contract
compliance.
I have received these rec■mmendations from a constituent, Esther

I believe these suggestio s have merit, and would re

The idea of incorporating existing non-profit organizationseinemore
meaningful ways could enh.nce the strength and effectiveness of

Supervisor, Laurel -Dale Office
Filling Current vacancy at Laurel -Dale Office
Esther Braun has been an employee of the Department since March 1972.
She was hired as a Neighborhood Worker and was promoted to Employment
Service Technician in March 1973. During her two year tenure she has
performed at a much higher level than what is expected of a Technician.
She really has been performing at the Neighborhood Advisor level.
Considering her excellent work performance coupled with the fact that
she is interested in the community and what happens to the clientele
of our office, I would consider her the prime candidate for the
vacancy. A synopsis of her community involvement might give you a
clearer picture of why I consider her top candidate for this position.

raun has been a resident of the Summit- University community since
1962. In 1966 she became a block captain for the Summit - University
Federation. She headed a Beautification of the City Project which
received a national award from First Lady Mrs. Johnson. She was
selected by the Summit-University community to go to Washington, D.C.
to receive the award. In 1968 she became involved with the Model
Cities Program. She was anoetiginal member of the Mayor's Task Force
which had the responsibility of setting up election procedures and
boundries for the Mode: Cities area. After completing her work on this
committee she was elected to the Model Cities Planning Council for two
terms. She served on the Health and Welfare Task Force for four years
and was chairman of the Crime and Justice Committee. These two
committees were instrumental in producing the now present Health Center
at the Martin Luther King Center as well as the Community Retreat
House. She is ttill active in the Retreat House and presently holds the
office of chairman. Im case you are unaware, the Retreat House is a
half -way house for felons recently released from Stillwater State Prison.
In addition, she served on the Ramsey Action Planning Committee from
1968 to 1971 and for her work in this community action program she
received a certificate Of accomplishment. Presently cis. Braun is an
alternate committee member to the Metropolitan Council Manpower
Planning Committee and she has recently been asked to serve on a
task force with thecCi of St. Paul to study women rights and their
employment problems,'
