Why): • Need to relocate an adult hybrid, male orangutan from Como Zoo as there is not adequate space to properly manage a breeding pair of purebred orangutais, currently received by Como Zoo, and the Zoo's remaining four hybrid orangutans. Due to a fire at the Philadelphia Zoo, If Parks and Rec. chooses, the orangutan can be sent to that zoo instead of the Los Angeles Zoo. ADVANTAGES IF APPROVED: Como Zoo can participate in the American Zoo and Aquarium Association's Orangutan Species Survival Plan for breeding of purebred Sumatran oranguta *s and improve the recreational and educational value of the Zoo's orangutan collection.
