In 1984, the Division of Parks and Recreation and the Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Commission completed a soccer study. The findings from the study are summarized in the Soccer in Saint Paul report. Opportunity exists to develop two soccer fields at McMurray Field in the area occupied by four undersized softball fields, and one soccer field at Arlington-Arkwright Park. As a result of further discussion with representatives of Saint Paul's youth and adult soccer organizations, the Arlington-Arkwright site has been added. With this funding, we will be able to convert an area occupied by four undersized softball fields at McMurray to two soccer fields, and convert an area occupied by one seldom used ballfield at Arlington-Arinvright to one soccer field. Please note that the area at Arlington-Arkwi•ight has been used for soccer for several years already, but can be improved by the removal of the existing ballfield backstop and infield.
