Whereas, The Charter of the City of Saint Paul, and the Cit}�s Legislative and
Administrative Codes, aze pubiished by the City of Saint Paul and the Office of City
Attorney pursuant to the authority contained in the Charter; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works bas requested authority from the City
Council to make the Charter and Codes available to the general public on what is known
as"Internet", a non-couunercial computerized system electronic communication; and
Whereas, The Administration recommends that the City Council authorize this
activity as being beneficial for the general use of the public; now therefore be it
Resolved, That the Council of the City of Saint Paul does hereby authorize and
pemut the Department of Public Works to make available to tt�e general public, through
the non-commercial "Intemet" system, the versions of the Charter of the City of Saint
Paul, and the Legislative and Administrative Codes of the City of Saint Paul.

ADVANTAGES IF APPROVED:
Making the Charter and Codes available to the general public, in addition to being
beneficial to the citizens, would save time and money for the City as the "Internet"
would be a single access paint for many people who now get access through other methods.
The City of Saint Paul would be providing a public service.

Internet Gopher Access to the Saint Paul Legislative Code
November 28th, 1994
Tim, we have received requests from customers of our Internet Gopher to provide
access to the Saint Paul Legislative Code. This would be arranged in much the same
way that the State Of Minnesota gives access to Minnesota Statutes via their
Internet Gopher Server. I would like to request that you consider allowing us to
place the Saint Paul Legislative Code on our Gopher Server.
In addition to giving citizens access, this will also save time and money for the City
as our Gopher Server could be a single access point for many people who now get
access through other methods.
I hope you find it possible to grant this request.
