In the Matter of acquiring properiy rights for right-of-way needed to construct a left-turn-lane signalization
project along Maryland Avenue at the intersection of Rice Street, as indicated on the attached map and report.
The Council of the City of Saint Paul having received the report of the Mayor upon the above improvement,
and having considered said report, hereby resolves:
That the said report and the same is hereby approved with no alternatives, and that the estimated cost
thereof is $650,000.00, financed by project funds.
2. That a public heaz'ing be had on said improvement on the 7th of Mazch 2007 at 530 o'clock P.M. in
the Council Chambers of the City Hall and Court House Building in the City of Saint Paul.
3. That nofice of said public hearing be given to the persons and in the manner provided by the Charter,
stating the time and place of hearing, the nature of the improvement and the total cost thereof as
estimated.

Public Works has determined there is a safety need for ttris project, which will require acquisiGon of easements and total takes for the
additional right-of-way. One property, 1199 Rice Street, is lazgely vacant. The depattment believes now wouid be an opportune
time to acquire it.

The Ciry can avoid the need to relocate a viable business (in the lazger building) and potentially save relocation costs.
DisaManWges If Approved:
The acquisition will remove a property from the tax rolis. Also, the property may sit idle for some months prior to conshvction.
Disadvantages If Not Approved:
The City eventually will need to acquire the property, but relocation will likely cost significantly more if the vacant building becomes
occupied.
