TING PROBLEM, ISSUE, OPYORTUNITP (Who, What, R'hen, Where, Why?):
The esting Earl Street Bridge, which was built in 1912, is in need of replacement Although extensive
rehabilitation work was done in 1956, and sidewalk and railing repiacement in 1969, it was necessary to
downgrade the maximum load limit to 15 tons in 1992, and nally to 5 tons in 1997. Vertical geometry and
sight distances are well below current standards.
varrrac.s nrraovEV:
A new bridge would increase the load limit and bring vertical geometry and sight distances up to current
standards.
ISADVANTAGES IF APPROVED: .
Various property interests, including fee takings and easements, would need to be acquired for the project
ISADVANTAGES IF NOT APPROVED:
To not proceed with this improvement could result in the eventual closing of the bridge.
